BOONE, Iowa—It’s easy to save the date to take part in the First Day Hikes with guided hikes being held at more than two-dozen Iowa State Parks, including the Ledges State Park in Boone County. Coming off the park’s Centennial Celebration, the First Day Hike will be a way to continue celebration into 2025. Park Manager Andy Bartlett released this information: There will be First Day Hikes happening across Iowa on New Year’s Day, but you’ll be hard pressed to find a better one than right here at Ledges! Join Ranger Klint Peterson on New Year’s Day for a short hike from the Oak Woods picnic area down into the canyon area of the park. Following the hike, warm up with a bowl of chili at the park headquarters where the Friends of the Ledges will be serving for a free will donation after the hike.
