The Madrid boys’ basketball team topped Ankeny Christian, 70-67, in a non-conference game Monday, January 6, in Ankeny.
The Tigers had a 25-16 lead at the end of the 1st quarter and led, 35-31, at the half.
They took a 53-47 lead at the end of the 3rd quarter and ended the game with a narrow 70-67 victory.
Fabian Ortiz-Alaniz led Madrid with 20 points on 8 field goals, 2 3-pointers and 2 free throws.
Brody Buck added 15 points on 5 field goals, 1 3-pointer and 4 free throws
Toryn Severson had 14 points on 4 field goals, 2 3-pointers and 4 free throws, while Jevyn Severson also had 14 points on 7 field goals.
Buck and Ortiz-Alaniz had 2 assists each.
For the Tiger defense, Toryn Severson had 12 rebounds and 2 blocks.
Jevyn Severson had 11 rebounds and 1 block, and Emerson Bridgewater had 9 rebounds and 2 steals.
Madrid remains unbeaten at 10-0 overall and 6-0 in the conference and is ranked No. 2 in Class 1A. Ankeny Christian fell to 4-2.
The Tigers return to West Central Conference play as they travel to Class 1A No. 7 Adair-Casey/Guthrie Center (5-0 overall, 4-0 conference) at 7:15 p.m. Friday, January 10.
