The Madrid boys’ basketball team was able to come from behind to beat Des Moines Christian, 64-59, Friday, January 17, in Urbandale in West Central Conference play.
The Tigers got off to a fast start, leading 24-18 at the end of the 1st quarter.
The lead evaporated in the 2nd quarter as Madrid found itself down, 37-32, at the half.
The Lions continued to lead, 49-45, at the end of the 3rd quarter, and the Tigers poured on the points in the 4th quarter to win the game, 64-59.
Jevyn Severson led the Tigers with 21 points on 9 field goals and 3 3-pointers.
Fabian Ortiz-Alaniz added 16 points on 6 field goals and 4 3-pointers.
Toryn Severson had 13 points on 3 field goals and 7 free throws.
Emerson Bridgewater had 7 assists, and Brody Buck and Ortiz-Alaniz handed out 2 each.
For the Madrid defense, Jevyn Severson had 7 rebounds and 1 block.
Buck grabbed 6 rebounds and 2 steals while Bridgewater had 6 rebounds.
The Tigers improved to 13-0 overall and 8-0 in the conference.
The Lions fell to 9-3 overall and 4-3 in the conference.
Madrid will host Woodward-Granger (5-9 overall, 1-6 conference) at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, January 21, in Madrid.
