Heggen 5th at Waukee tournament

The Boone girls’ wrestling team competed at the Northwest Invite Saturday, January 18 in Waukee. 

Cadence Heggen placed 5th at 190 pounds. 

Heggen received a first-round bye and lost by decision to Ellen Gerlock of SWAT Valkyrie, 10-4. 

In the consolation rounds, she pinned Tatum Tharp of Ames in 2:56 and pinned Evie Wagner of Waverly-Shell Rock in 5:13. 

In the 5th place match, Heggen won by decision over Emma Grossman of Carroll, 8-5. 

Gracie Vodenik placed 7th at 135 pounds. 

Vodenik was pinned in the first round by Edie Collins of Raccoon River-Northwest in 1:31. 

In the consolation rounds, she received a bye before pinning Lea Gute of Missouri Valley in 5:37. 

Then Vodenik was pinned by Cecelia Gryp of Williamsburg in 1:10, and in the 7th place match, she pinned Liberty Boettger of Ballard in 2:56. 

Emersyn Zehner also participated in the tournament. 

She won by decision over Lindsay Trotter of Lewis Central, 3-1 before getting pinned by Naomia Templeman of Raccoon River-Northwest in 1:50. 

In the consolation round, Zehner lost by decision to Ava Pitt of Missour iValley, 7-5. 

The Toreadors will host Gilbert, Woodward-Granger, Carlisle, Ballard and Winterset at 5 p.m. Thursday, January 23, in Boone.
