Madrid girls win on the road, lose at home

The Madrid girls’ basketball team beat Don Bosco in overtime, 58-52, on Monday, January 27, at Gilbertville before losing a close game to Panorama, 39-35, on Tuesday, January 28, in Panora. 

The Tigers led the Dons after the 1st quarter, 9-7, and at the half 19-18. 

Don Bosco game back to lead after the 3rd quarter, 36-30, but Madrid caught up to tie the game at the end of regulation, 49-49. 

The Tigers scored 9 points to the Dons’ 3 in overtime and won the game, 58-52. 

Laura Eagleton led Madrid with 21 points on 8 field goals, 2 3-pointers and 3 free throws. 

Lauren Dvorak and Jillian Olmstead both had double-doubles. 

Dvorak had 15 points 12 rebounds and 4 blocks, while Olmstead had 10 points, 13 rebounds and 2 steals. 

Olmstead had 4 assists while Samantha Springer and Audrey Brown had 3 each. 

The next evening, Madrid fell to Panorama at home in West Central Conference play. 

The Tigers led at the half, 20-15, and at the end of the 3rd quarter, 26-30, but could not pull it out and lost, 39-35. 

Eagleton led all scorers with 18 points on 6 field goals, 1 3-pointer and 2 free throws. 

Springer added 7 points on 2 field goals, and Dvorak had 5 points on 1 field goal and 3 free throws. 

Madrid is 5-12 overall and 1-10 in the conference while Panorama is 10-6 overall and 6-6 in the conference. 

Madrid will host Earlham (6-9, 4-5) at 6:30 p.m. Friday, January 31.
