Rylin Casey, Sydney King and Grace Hammer all placed 2nd in their weight classes at the Class 1A regional girls’ wrestling meet Friday, January 31, at Colfax, which qualified them for state.
The girls state wrestling tournament will take place Thursday and Friday, February 6 and 7, at XSTREAM Arena in Coralville.
Casey received 2 byes before pinning Piper Madren of Grinnell in 3:12 in the quarterfinal before pinning Harper Peterson of Perry in 4:48 in the semifinal.
In the 1st-place match at 100 pounds, she was pinned by Lily Webster of Colfax Mingo in 1:03 before winning by no contest over Peterson in the 2nd-place match.
King also received 2 byes before pinning Gabby Osmundson of Woodward-Granger in :54 in the quarterfinal and winning by decision over Devan Chadwick of Colfax-Mingo, 18-15, in the semifinals.
In the 1st-place match at 105 pounds, she was pinned by Mercedes Ponce of Perry in 1:28 before winning by no contest over Chadwick in the 2nd-place match.
Hammer received 2 byes before pinning Kiance Keahna-Roberts of Meskwaki Settlement in :26 in the quarterfinals and also pinned Jahzarah Ward of Grinnell in :56 in the semifinals.
In the 1st-place match at 190 pounds, Hammer was pinned by Elizabeth Kalinay of West Marshall in :37 before pinning Brooklynn Simons of Ackley-Geneva/Wellsburg-Steamboat Rock in 1:00 in the 2nd-place match.
Other Bulldogs participating at regionals include Trinity Stoneburner at 110 pounds, Sophie Seligman at 125 pounds, Hannah Wells at 145 pounds and Makayla Alexander at 170 pounds.
