Boone girls end season with loss at Newton

The Boone girls’ basketball team ended its season at Newton Wednesday, February 19, with a 41-37 loss. 

Newton led, 8-4, at the end of the 1st quarter and were up 18-14 at the half. 

The Cardinals were ahead, 31-25, at the end of the 3rd quarter and won the game, 41-37. 

The Toreadors were led by Shannon Jenkins who had 10 points on 3 3-pointers and 1 free throw. 

Macy Chesnut also scored 10 points on 4 field goals and 2 3-pointers. 

Sydney Adams ended with 8 points on 4 field goals. 

Addie Tungesvik and Avery Howie had 3 points each on a made 3-pointer, and Maleah Shivers added 3 points on a field goal and a free throw. 

Boone ends its season 5-18 and Newton improves to 11-11. 

For the season, Chesnut led the scoring with 175 points, and Adams had 162 points. 

Jenkins scored 88 points. 

Tungesvik had 37 assists, while Chesnut had 22 and Jenkins had 21. 

Shivers led the defense with 82 rebounds. 

Ava Johnson grabbed 62, and Jenkins had 61.
