BOONE, Iowa—Nyla Rose Cox, 89, of Boone, passed away on Friday, February 21, 2025, at the Eastern Star Masonic Home in Boone.
A graveside service will be held at a later date at Linwood Cemetery in Boone.
Nyla was born on February 28, 1935, in Boone, the daughter of Roy and Elsie (Warden) Stumbo. She grew up in Boone and attended Boone Jr.-Sr. High School.
Nyla was united in marriage to Charles Edward Cox. They made their home in Boone and had one son, Kim.
Nyla was employed at Bourens until the company closed. She then worked for Trilight Windows, where she eventually retired. Nyla was a regular attendee at the Iowa State Fair, which was one of her and Chuck’s favorite activities. She also enjoyed all types of car races, including NASCAR, INDY, and local track events. Nyla even raced at the Boone Speedway.
Some of Nyla’s favorite hobbies included knitting and crocheting, and she made many beautiful afghans. She was known for her large garden and for preparing the best Sunday meals. Her Christmas candy, especially her famous caramels, was something everyone eagerly anticipated. Most of all, Nyla loved spending time with her family, babysitting her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Nyla and Chuck made many trips in their semi-truck to California, where they enjoyed visiting special friends. One of the most memorable trips was when they took their grandchildren to Disneyland.
Nyla was very close to her sisters and especially enjoyed walks with her sister Arlene.
She was a loving mother, mother-in-law, and grandmother.
Nyla was preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Elsie; her husband, Charles; and her sisters, Arlene Reynoldson and Mary Russell.
Nyla is survived by her son, Kim (Diane) Cox of Boone; her grandchildren, Joel Cox and Isha Casey, both of Boone; and her great-grandchildren, Rylin Casey and Chase Casey, both of Boone.
