BOONE, Iowa—Roger D. Moravetz, 81, of Boone, passed away Sunday, February 23, 2025, at the Eastern Star Masonic Home in Boone.
Roger was born July 3, 1943, in Ogden, IA, the son of John and Sylvia (Stone) Moravetz. He grew up on a farm south east of Ogden. Roger attended country school through the sixth grade and then Ogden High School.
Roger worked as a meat cutter for 8.5 years for Fareway. He then started working for the Chicago Northwestern Railroad in 1968, later known as Union Pacific, and retired after 42 years in 2010. Roger served with the US Army and then the Iowa Army National Guard. He enjoyed watching NASCAR, drag races, football – especially the KC Chiefs. Roger was a member of the American Legion, VFW, Moose Lodge and the Elks. He always looked forward to spending time his family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Pauline Panisewicz and Marietta Moravetz; and brother, Kenneth Moravetz.
Roger is survived by his son, Rory Moravetz; granddaughter, Molly Moravetz; two nieces, Pam Heilman and Pat Panisewicz; two nephews, David Moravetz and Jeff Moravetz; and close friend, Cindy Watson.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM, Tuesday, March 4, 2025, at the First United Methodist Church, 703 Arden Street, Boone, with the Rev. Adam Gordon officiating. Visitation will be one hour before the funeral at the church on Tuesday. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery, Ogden, with military honors by the Boone Veterans Council.
