Posted on 05 March 2025 by KWBG

BOONE, Iowa—The next in an annual series of historic railroad presentations will be Saturday, March 8th at 2:00 p.m. at the James H. Andrew Railroad Museum. Eric Fogg, Railroad Historian and Speaker will present The “Merci Train” Comes to Iowa.

Mike Wendell, with the Boone and Scenic Valley Railroad and the James H. Andrew Museum says Eric Fogg spent his college summers working on a Class I railroad and he’s been a rail-fan ever since. To prove the point, this spring he met his years-long challenge of riding a train in all 50 states. A retired marketing and public relations executive, nowadays you can find him volunteering at the B&SVRR. Eric explores the little known story behind the French Gratitude Train. What’s come to be known as the “Merci Train”, it’s an example of everyday people taking time and making the effort to help one another. Whatever happened to the train and those 49 box cars that are now 80 years old? Join us on March 8th at 2:00 p.m. at the museum or also on ZOOM to find out. For the ZOOM connection email: mike@bsvrr.com.

The program is partially sponsored by Humanities Iowa and the National Endowment for the Humanities. It’s free to the public 2:00 Saturday afternoon at the James H. Andrew Railroad Museum.
