The Madrid Tiger Boys Basketball team held off a very talented Marquette Catholic squad Friday night to secure their first ever State Title in Boys Basketball and cap off a 28-0 season. Madrid seemed to be in control at the halftime break 31-21, but the Defenders came out and outscored Madrid 21-13 in the 3rd quarter and we had a one point game heading to the final stanza. Fabian Ortiz-Alaniz was huge down the stretch, and the Tigers made just enough free throws to cap off the win 59-57. Ortiz-Alaniz finished with 18points and 3rebounds. Toryn Severson led the way with 21pts and 6rebounds and was named All Tournament Captain. Brody Buck chipped in 5pts and was named to the All Tournament Squad. Head Coach Brian Surratt also eclipsed a milestone with his 100th career win. The Tiger senior’s finish their careers with 89 wins in 4yrs against only 13 losses. Marquette Catholic ends their season 27-2.
