AMES, Iowa—JoAnn Santage, age 74, of Ames and formerly of Treynor and Boone, died Thursday, March 20, 2025, at the Eastern Star Masonic Home in Boone.
JoAnn Lynn Santage was born in Perry, on April 29, 1950, to Harley and Goldie Friedrichsen. She graduated from Woodward-Granger Schools and Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville, Missouri. JoAnn was united in marriage to Larry Santage on June 27, 1970, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Boone.
She taught GED English and worked in the resource center at DMACC in Boone. JoAnn moved to Treynor in 1996, and worked at Metropolitan Community College in the resource center and taught English as a second language. She stayed in Treynor until 2021, when she moved to Ames.
JoAnn enjoyed spending time with family and friends, and watching her grandsons’ sporting events. She was a part of a quilting circle in both Boone and Ames. JoAnn also enjoyed gardening and bird watching.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Larry.
JoAnn is survived by her two daughters, Alisa (John) Beary of Ames and Kelly Santage of Woodward; two grandsons, Brennan and Jameson Beary; and her sister, Carol (Jim) Canning of Pepperell, Massachusetts.
Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 PM Thursday, March 27, 2025, at the Schroeder-Reimers Memorial Chapel, 1006 6th Street, Boone. Funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM Friday, March 28, 2025, at the funeral home with Rev. Jim Mead officiating. The service will be livestreamed and available for viewing on JoAnn’s Tribute Wall on the Schroeder-Reimers Memorial Chapel website. Burial will be in the People’s Cemetery, Woodward.
