Ray was born August 5, 1935, in Linden, Iowa, the son of Alva and Eva (Blackley) Moorman. He graduated from Boone High School in 1954. Ray grew up in a large family and routinely met with his siblings throughout his life.
On May 9, 1959, Ray was united in marriage with Rosemary Phelan at the Church of the Sacred Heart in Boone.
Ray joined the electrical trade in 1959, was a member of IBEW 347, and worked for Brown Brothers Electrical until his retirement in 1997.
Ray’s warm heart and giving nature made him a cherished soul in every corner of his life. Whether it was lending a hand to a neighbor, offering a listening ear, or simply sharing his infectious smile, Ray was always there for others. He had a remarkable ability to make everyone feel seen and valued. He loved to tinker with gas engines and could get anything running. There was no task too big or small that Ray wouldn’t take on, and his willingness to help was a testament to his character and love for those around him. Ray made the world a better place, one small act of kindness at a time.
Rosemary and Ray enjoyed retirement by traveling to Arizona for a month each year with dear friends Ed and Jan Swain. Above all else, family was the most important to Ray.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Rosemary in 2020; granddaughter, Sarabeth Dubberke; two sisters, Beverly Jo and Patricia; and three brothers, Larry, Richard and Vernon.
Ray is survived by his three daughters, Lisa (Dan) Dillavou, Jean (Mike) Dubberke and Stephanie (Jim) Pulse; six grandchildren, Amy (Mike) Huston, Adam (Samantha) Dillavou, Rebecca (Mitch) Steimel, Gabe (Cassie Nemmers) Dubberke, Joshua Pulse and Trevor Pulse; four great-grandchildren, Charlotte and Dorothy Dillavou and Graham and Levi Steimel; six siblings, Ronnie (Donna) Moorman, Jack (Betty) Moorman, Janice (Ed) Swain, Joyce Elsberry, Donna Myers and Denny Moorman.
He leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and compassion that will continue to inspire those who knew him. Ray’s memory will live on in the countless lives he touched, in the stories shared, and in the lasting impact he made in his community.
Rest in peace, Ray. You will forever be in our hearts. Your kindness will never be forgotten.
