BOONE, Iowa—Helen Ilene Hopkins, 86, of Boone, passed away Tuesday, April 1, 2025, at the Eastern Star Masonic Home in Boone.
Helen was born December 30, 1938, in Boone, the daughter of John Kenneth and Genevieve (Lowrey) Walters.
Helen was united in marriage to Ray Dean Hopkins on September 17, 1955, in Nevada. From this union were three children, Darcy, Tim and Jean.
They owned and operated Hopkins Trucking and Excavating until their retirement in 2001. Helen and Ray made trips on their Harley all over the United States and even to Canada.
Helen was a homemaker, bookkeeper for their business, avid bowler, a member of Sacred Heart Church and the Elks Lodge No. 2884. The most important thing to Helen, was spending time with her family and attending all of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren’s many activities.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 66 years, Ray; infant daughter; three sisters, Phyllis McCormick, Charlotte Benshoff and Linda Hodges.
Helen is survived by her children, Darcy (Dwight) Bosch, Tim (Lori) Hopkins and Jean (Randy) Cartee, all of Boone; grandchildren, Angie (Scott) Kruse, Kristin (Joe) Foss, Kyle (Shannon) Bosch, Amy (Jamie) Eckard, Aleesha (Kyle) Angstrom, Tyler (Kelli) Cartee and Mason Cartee; 14 great-grandchildren; siblings, Kenneth Paul (Mary Jane) Walters of Ogden, Thomas (Karla) Walters of Boone and Beverly (Randy) Kathman of Ogden; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 3:00 to 5:00 P.M. Sunday, April 6, 2025, at the Schroeder-Reimers Memorial Chapel, 1006 6th Street, in Boone. A Mass of Christian burial will be 10:30 A.M., Monday, April 7, 2025, at the Church of the Sacred Heart, 915 12th Street, Boone, with Rev. Timothy Johnson officiating. Interment will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Boone.
