DES MOINES, Iowa—The National Weather Service Office in Des Moines has released updated information about the potential for severe weather. As of Sunday morning, widespread rainfall with occasional thunderstorms are expected. A few stronger storms are possible in southern and southeastern Iowa. Stronger storms may be capable of producing damaging winds, hail and a brief tornado. Rainfall amounts of 1 to 2″ expected area-wide, with locally higher amounts nearing 3″ possible.
The rainfall and occasional thunderstorms are expected area-wide, however, any stronger storms will be most likely in southern and southeastern Iowa. Rainfall begins in the south this morning and will spread north through the day. Thunderstorms expected in the afternoon and evening.
