Johnson Selected as New Boone HS Prinicipal

KWBG 05/28/21

BOONE, Iowa—The Boone School District today has announced the new High School Principal.  The district provided this press release:

Boone Schools recently hosted finalists for the high school principal position. Each candidate presented to high school staff members, got a tour of the high school and interviewed with three formal interview teams. Interview teams consisted of community members, parents, students, teachers, support staff and administrators. Superintendent Julie Trepa had time to speak with each candidate as well. After the interviews, each person provided feedback on the candidates to inform the hiring selection.

Based on the feedback, it was clear that Mr. Johnson was the choice to serve as the next Boone High School Principal. Superintendent Trepa said, “I was excited to have such strong candidates for the position and appreciated the feedback from all of the interview teams. Jon offers a lot to our high school and brings the specific skills and experience that will continue to move our high school forward. I look forward to working with him and all he will offer our district and larger community.”

Jon currently serves as the Athletic Director at North High School for the Des Moines School District. His prior experience includes serving DMPS North High School as an at-risk coordinator. His teaching experience includes teaching 7-8th grade language arts and reading. Some of the highlights of his experiences include promoting equitable access to clubs and activities for students, his knowledge and understanding of Social Emotional Learning and Standards Referenced Grading, and hiring and developing coaches for school sponsored activities.

Jon was excited to accept the position saying, “Boone is the type of community in which I want to raise my family. I feel incredibly fortunate to have the opportunity to be a part of such a great school and community.” Jon is married to his wife Jess, who is from Boone. They have three kids: Teddy (9), Alice (7), and Edith (4). In his free time Jon enjoys camping, reading a good book, smoking meats, and spending time with family and friends

Mr. Johnson earned a Bachelor of Arts in Education Degree from Upper Iowa University in 2007. He has endorsements in K-8: English/Language Arts, Reading, and P.E./Health. His Master of Arts in Educational Leadership was issued in 2012 from Viterbo University.

Mr. Johnson will formally begin his duties on July 1, 2021. Please welcome Jon and his family to the district.
