Boone PD to Host Annual Citizens Police Academy

Posted on 03 January 2018 by KWBG

BOONE, Iowa—The annual Citizen Police Academy, sponsored by the Boone Police Department starts on February 22, 2017.  The classes will be held on Thursday nights from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM from February 22rd through April 19th, 2018.  For those considering being a part of the program, Police Chief John Wiebold says it is essential to attend as many sessions as possible to get the maximum value from the program.

The Citizen’s Police Academy (CPA) is not training of any sort, despite the name.  It is designed primarily for the community to better understand how their police function – from basic patrol to firearm issues to crime scene investigation.  It is an overview and a chance to ask questions of law enforcement.  One of the keys to a successful CPA is the ride-a-longs.  While you are attending CPA, you are encouraged to schedule a ride along with our officers to see how/what was talked about in class translates to the street.

The basic requirement is attendance – there is no charge, we feed you and provide beverages, and any equipment.  We would prefer NO criminal history, but we can make exceptions based on the value you would bring to the CPA.  What we really want from you is your willingness to participate, your particular thoughts on law enforcement and an open mind to ours.

APPLICATIONS CAN BE OBTAINED AT THE BOONE POLICE DEPARTMENT, BOONE LIBRARY, BOONE CITY HALL AND WEBSITE OR EMAIL CHIEF WIEBOLD AT jwiebold@city.boone.ia.us OR MAY BE FOUND HERE.

APPLICATION DEADLINE IS 4PM FRIDAY FEBRUARY 9TH, 2018.
