BOONE, Iowa—The Boone Parks Department has re-opened the John Hansen Memorial Skate Rink in Gutterridge Park, now that temperatures have dropped and the ice is frozen. Mild weather last week led to the closure of the rink until colder weather made it usable once again. It was also announced that the warming house is expected to be open Sunday afternoon from around 1:00 PM until 5:00 PM. It has already been announced that Nerem and Associates, Real Estate and Insurance will operate the warming house on Monday, January 15th from 1:00 PM until 7:00 PM. They will provide hot chocolate and free skates while supplies last.
The Parks Department continues to take applications for those that would like to volunteer and oversee the warming house. A background check is required. All the information about volunteering is available on the city’s website, under the Parks Department.
