County Conservation Adopts Regulation Changes

Posted on 13 March 2018 by KWBG

BOONE, Iowa—The Boone County Conservation Board voted 4-0 Monday, to approve proposed changes in the regulations that affect the High Trestle Trail and the High Trestle Bridge in Boone County.  The change that drew the most attention was the inclusion of a provision the will prohibit the open consumption of alcohol on the trail and the bridge in Boone County or that portion of the trail not under the jurisdiction other entities like the City of Madrid.

The actual turnout for the public input portion of the meeting was small.  There were about a dozen people, and most of them supported the proposed changes.  Tanner Scheuermann, Executive Director for Boone County Conservation, said the proposal was presented at a recent steering committee meeting, but there was not an interest in adopting similar regulations by other participants.  Most cities already have ordinances that deal with the open consumption of alcohol.

According to Boone County Conservation Ranger Steve Nugteren, citations will be issued for violations of the ordinance and those that are cited will need to make a court appearance where a judge will determine any penalty.  The ordinance will allow both fines and/or jail time.
