Stratford, Iowa — Xenia Rural Water District is advising residents of Xenia’s Eastern portion of the North Water Service Area to boil water before consumption following a water main break on Friday morning north of the City of Stratford. To view a comprehensive map of the affected area, please visit Xenia’s website at www.xeniawater.org. Customers are urged to sign up for Xenia’s AMG alert system located on Xenia’s website for water quality updates.
IT IS RECOMMENDED NOT TO DRINK THE WATER WITHOUT BOILING FIRST. Bring all water to a boil, let it boil for one minute and let it cool before using, or use bottled water. Boiled or bottled water should be used for drinking, making ice, brushing teeth and food preparation until further notice. Boiling kills bacteria and other organisms in the water. The water may be used for bathing and other similar purposes.
After water service is restored to the community, the District will test the water to ensure it is safe for consumption. Notice will be given to the residents when the boil advisory has been lifted.
