One Dead Following Two Vehicle Accident Sunday in Boone County

BOONE, Iowa—The Iowa State Patrol and Boone County Sheriff’s Department investigated a two-vehicle accident early Sunday morning, that claimed the life of a 26-year old Nevada woman.  The initial report from the Iowa State Patrol indicates that a car, operated by 27-year old Phillip James Fleming of Nevada was traveling south on Highway 169 early Sunday morning when it was struck by a pickup truck operated by 24-year old Jordan Dean Ihel of Polk City.  Authorities report that Ihel was traveling east on 280th Street and apparently failed to stop for the stop sign at the intersection.

Fleming was flown from the scene by Mercy Life Flight and taken to Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines.  There is no update on his condition.  Alyssa Carol August of Nevada  was pronounced dead at the scene.  The investigation indicates that August was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident.

According to the report from the Iowa State Patrol, the accident remains under investigation.
