BOONE, Iowa—The Boone County Historical Society Board of Directors has sent a letter to membership to explain some changes that will be in effect September 1st. The letter says one of the main objectives is to become a more flexible organization, more responsive to members.
The letter says with the operating funds cut by the city and county, the organization has reached a crossroads. The director will be terminated due to a lack of funding from the city and county. The administrative assistant will also be let go as will the cleaning team. The letter goes on to say the reductions in staffing will have a negative impact on services and hours. It also says the drastic reductions in municipal and local funding are leading to the unavoidable sale of the Mamie Doud Eisenhower Birthplace since they can’t afford to keep it going or give it away.
The letter also notes that the code of conduct and social media policy was well received by many members and will continue to used.
At the present time, the organization will rely entirely on memberships, donations, fundraisers, which includes the 25th Annual Pufferbilly Days™ Quilt Show, and increased facility rental to sustain. The letter also noted that the next board meeting will be held October 9th at 5:30 p.m.
