Posted on 25 September 2018 by KWBG

BOONE, Iowa—The Boone Police Department was recently successful in making an arrest in an attempted fraud case.  Chief John Wiebold has released this information.

On September 21, 2018 the Boone Police Department was notified of an attempted fraud
taking place in the 100 block of 4th Street. The attempted fraud consisted of a credit card
“skimming device” being placed on one of the gas pumps. A person observed this taking place
and notified the Boone Police Department. The “skimming device” was seized and the license
plate of the suspect vehicle was broadcast to surrounding agencies. The suspect vehicle was
located near Hwy 30 and Interstate 35 and the Ames Police Department along with the Story
County Sheriff’s Office conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle. The Boone Police responded
and made an arrest in this case. The suspect was identified as Dunier Garcia Perez, age 29
of Hialeah, FL. He was charged with Identity Theft Under $1,000.00.

Wiebold did say the investigation is continuing.  He did say an arrest without a disposition is not an indication of guilt.
