New Women in Energy Scholarship Paving the Way For Kosovo Students To Enroll at DMACC This Fall

Posted on 22 February 2019 by KWBG

ANKENY, Iowa—Petrit Selimi CEO of the Millennium Foundation Kosovo and DMACC President Rob Denson announced the Women in Energy Scholarship program last month, with a grant of up to $1,000,000 to train a new generation of women leaders at DMACC for Kosovo’s expanding energy sector.

“We’re very pleased with the grant and excited to host these talented international students,” said President Denson. “DMACC offers a practical, business-ready education in Wind Turbine Technology, Electronics Engineering Technology/Solar, Applied Engineering, Tool & Die, Computer Aided Design and other degrees that have application to the energy industry. These women will have an immediate impact on Kosovo’s energy sector after they graduate from DMACC.”

U.S. Senator Joni Ernst (R) Iowa congratulated the Millennium Foundation Kosovo and DMACC. She said the participants in the Women in Energy Program will be warmly welcomed in Iowa and are coming to the right place to learn about this important sector.

“As one of the biggest renewable energy producers in the United States, Iowa can provide a unique perspective on how to run a modern energy sector,” said Ernst in her video message to prospective applicants. Senator Ernst said the Kosovo Women in Energy Scholarship is another extension of the strong bonds that exist between Iowa and Kosovo. It started eight years ago when a Sister States partnership was signed that included an agreement between the Iowa National Guard and the Kosovo Security Forces.

“Then, the opening of a Consulate in Des Moines and the appointment of Xhavit Gashi as Consul General moved the relationship to a new and exciting level. General Gashi is the face of Kosovo in Iowa and has built a team that will continue to bring great things to Kosovo and Iowa for many years,” said Denson.

Kosovo is also retaining DMACC to develop a vocational training center in Kosovo to create more skilled workers for their businesses.
