IUB Updates Moratorium Extension

Posted on 02 April 2019 by KWBG

DES MOINES, Iowa—On March 29, 2019, the Iowa Utilities Board issued an emergency order extending the end of the winter moratorium from April 1 to May 13, 2019. In coordination with the Governor’s Office and other state agencies, the emergency extension will apply statewide to all eligible customers under the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP), and to investor-owned, municipal, and cooperative utilities providing electric and natural gas service.

On March 14 Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds issued a statewide Disaster Emergency Proclamation due to continuing widespread flooding and severe weather. The IUB’s statewide action is consistent with the Governor’s Proclamation.

LIHEAP-eligible customers are encouraged to contact their utility companies or their local Community Action Agencies to inquire about available energy assistance funding and payment arrangements.

The annual moratorium typically runs from November 1 to April 1.
