A Special Election was required when a petition was submitted seeking the election rather than having the City Council fill the vacated seat by appointment. 4th Ward Council Member Kevin Hicks resigned the beginning of March for personal reasons. At the time it was announced that the Council intended to fill the position by appointment. The petition for the Special Election was submitted in the appropriate time frame and had the appropriate number of signatures and was considered valid. 4th Ward residents will be voting in their usual polling location, the Ericson Public Library.
