Nationally Recognized Railroad Historian and Author to Speak in Boone Saturday

KWBG 06/12/19

BOONE, Iowa—The James H. Andrew Museum and History Center at the Boone And Scenic Valley Railroad has hosted five-free presentations by various railroad historians so far this year.  The sixth and final event is scheduled for Saturday afternoon and Mike Wendel says they are pleased to present a renowned speaker to wrap up this season.

Clemson University History Professor H. Roger Grant will present a free special presentation Saturday, June 15, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. at the James H. Andrew Railroad Museum and History Center at the Boone and Scenic Valley Railroad. Grant’s program will “trace the building, operation, and fate of a strategic and important piece of U.S. trackage from the 1860’s to the present… the Rock Island Railroad was liquidated in the late 1970’s with the east-west mainline becoming the failed Iowa Railroad. Today the Iowa Interstate (IAIS) is a major player. While the IAIS early on encountered financial difficulties, it became under Henry Posner III and the Railroad Development Corporation, a money machine,” Professor Grant said.

H. Roger Grant’s presentation will be the last for 2019 in the season’s museum speaker program. The museum is located adjacent to the Boone and Scenic Valley Railroad – 225 10th St., Boone, IA 50036.

For more information about this free event or the other exhibits at the museum, call 1-800-626-0319, e-mail mike@bsvrr.com, or visit www.bsvrr.com.
