King Town Hall Covers Immigration, Trade and More

KWBG 08/13/19

BOONE, Iowa—4th District Congressman Steve King met with a couple of dozen constituents during a one-hour town hall meeting in Boone Tuesday.  It was the second town hall of the day, the first in the morning in Charles City.

King said he wanted to talk about trade agreements, but began by talking about a recent trip he took to the border with Mexico.  He talked about what he saw on his visit and his take on the issue of illegal immigration.  He generally focused on those entering the country seeking asylum.

King responded a variety of pre-submitted topics or questions, ranging from the Affordable Care Act to the loss of population in rural districts to legislative support for those with disabilities, specifically for those that are blind.

On trade, King said enough support needs to be gathered to approve USMCA.  The United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement has been sitting for some time.  He says the U.S. House needs more support from the majority party to be able to move forward.  King says he hopes it will be done by the end of the year.
