Discover 4-H, October 7th in Boone County

KWBG 10/02/19

BOONE, Iowa—Have you ever wondered what is 4-H, what can youth do in 4-H, what happens at a 4-H meeting? Did you know that 4-H is more than just agriculture and you don’t have to live on a farm to be a member?  All youth in grades 4th through 12th and their families are invited to discover 4-H during Discover 4-H Night on Monday, October 7th from 6:30 – 7:30 p.m. at the Boone County Extension Office at 1327 SE Marshall Street in Boone.  Join us for fun games, science experiments and learn about 4-H from 4-H’ers themselves!

About 4-H:

In 4 H, we believe in the power of young people. We see that every child has valuable strengths and real influence to improve the world around us. We are America’s largest youth development organization—empowering nearly six million young people across the U.S. with the skills to lead for a lifetime. 4‑H is delivered by Cooperative Extension—a community of more than 100 public universities across the nation that provides experiences where young people learn by doing. Kids complete hands-on projects in areas like health, science, agriculture and citizenship, in a positive environment where they receive guidance from adult mentors and are encouraged to take on proactive leadership roles. Kids experience 4‑H in every county in the country—through in-school and after-school programs, school and community clubs and 4‑H camps.  National 4-H Council is the private sector, non-profit partner of the Cooperative Extension System and 4-H National Headquarters located at the National Institute of Food and Agriculture (NIFA) within the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA).

For more information about 4-H, call the Boone County Extension Office at (515) 432-3882 or visit the website www.extension.iastate.edu/boone/4h .

Natalie Hedlund, Boone County 4-H Youth Coordinator, will be live on KWBG Wednesday morning at 9:05 a.m. to talk about the 4-H program.
