I-35/80 Urban Loop (Rider Corner) Exit Ramps Close Friday Night

KWBG 10/06/19

GRIMES, Iowa—Work to replace pavement along westbound Iowa 141, north of Interstate 35/80 in Urbandale, requires closing the east- and westbound I-35/80 exit ramps at the Iowa 141 Urban Loop (formerly Rider Corner) interchange beginning at 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 11, until 6 a.m. Monday, Oct. 21, weather permitting, according to the Iowa Department of Transportation’s Grimes construction office.

The ramp closures are necessary due to the reduction of westbound Iowa 141 to a single lane between I-35/80 in Urbandale and 37th Street in Grimes. Significant traffic congestion on westbound Iowa 141 is anticipated with this lane closure, which would cause traffic to back up on the interstate exit ramps and onto the interstate, leading to potentially dangerous conditions. Drivers are encouraged to find alternate routes if possible and use extra caution if you must travel in this location.

Entrance ramps from Iowa 141 to east- and westbound I-35/80 will remain open during this project. Motorists can follow a marked detour route (see map) during construction.

The Iowa DOT reminds motorists to drive with caution, obey the posted speed limit and other signs in the work area, and be aware that traffic fines for moving violations are at least double in work zones. As in all work zones, drivers should stay alert, allow ample space between vehicles, and wear seat belts.

The latest traveler information is available anytime through our 511 system. To receive email or text alerts about traffic incidents, road closures, traffic delays, and other restrictions that affect this highway route or other routes you travel, the Iowa DOT offers the “Your 511” option on 511ia.org.
