Volunteers Braved Cold Temperatures to Lay Wreaths in Boone Sunday

Posted on 16 December 2019 by KWBG

BOONE, Iowa—A small but hearty group turned out to lay wreaths on the graves of many veterans Sunday as part of the Wreaths Across America program.  Richelle Bergeson coordinated the Boone County effort and first had to deal with a delay in the arrival of an expected 1,300 wreaths.  When the wreaths were unloaded Saturday afternoon, there were double the amount sponsored in Boone County, made available from donations to Wreaths Across America and from Fremont Contract Carriers, the trucking firm that brought the wreaths to Boone County.

Volunteers early on Sunday began traveling to a number of cemeteries to drop of the wreaths for other volunteers to place on grave sites, including the Linwood Park Cemetery where the formal ceremony was scheduled for 1:30 in the afternoon.

Due to the number of wreaths received it’s expected to take a couple of days to complete the laying of the wreaths.
