STRATFORD, Iowa—This week, a brief ceremony was held during the Boone City Council meeting, to announce that the Boone Fire Department has been named the recipient of a grant from the developer of a wind farm that is planned in northern Boone County and southern Hamilton County. Representatives were on hand to meet with the council, announcing the grant award. The following is the formal announcement:
Apex Clean Energy has awarded $5,000 in its second round of Community Grant Program funds in Hamilton and Boone Counties. These funds support areas related to community development, the environment, education, and health and recreation.
This round’s grantee is the Boone Fire Department. The Boone Fire Department is a combination full-time, part-time, and paid on-call department that provides fire suppression, Emergency Medical Services, Fire Prevention and Education, Fire Code Enforcement, and Technical Rescue. The department also provides mutual aid to the surrounding departments for all emergency response capabilities.
The grant funds will be used to purchase technical rescue equipment needed for the department to safely perform high-angle rescue operations. BFA President Josh Long thanked Apex for the grant, saying: “The Boone Fire Department is very grateful to Great Pathfinder Wind for this opportunity. There is a growing need for technical and rope rescues in our community and this grant will help us purchase new and updated equipment.”
Max Jabrixio, public engagement manager for Apex, added: “We’re very pleased to be able to support Boone’s first responders in the critical work they do to serve the community. In addition to the grant funding, Apex is able to offer safety training relating to the operations of wind turbines to first responders. Apex has a deep commitment to safety at all of our projects, and partnerships like this help us live out that core value.”
With these grants, Great Pathfinder Wind closes its second round of quarterly grant donations. One of Great Pathfinder Wind’s primary goals is to be a strong community partner and establish long-term relationships with local residents. Our Community Grant Program is one way that we can contribute to pressing community needs, help enrich lives, and make a meaningful impact at the local level. Apex Clean Energy awards these grants through its Community Grant Program on a quarterly basis.
