Ogden Girls Basketball names John Barbier new Head Coach

KWBG 04/14/20

John Barbier has been named the new Head Girls Basketball Coach at Ogden High School. Barbier has 26 years of varsity coaching experience, most recently as the Gilbert
High School (Gilbert, IA) Girls’ Basketball coach from 2014 – 2018. Prior to coaching at Gilbert, Barbier made coaching stops as the Girls Varsity coach at Sioux Central High
School (Sioux Rapids, IA) from 2006 – 2014, St Charles High School (St. Charles, MN) from 2003 – 2006, and as the Boys’ Varsity coach at Dickinson High School (Dickinson,
ND) from 1994 – 2000. Barbier currently serves as a math instructor and assistant cross country coach at Gilbert High School. He will soon finish his Administrative Degree from
Viterbo University.

“I am very grateful for this opportunity. Ogden is a wonderful school with a great athletic tradition. Like all of us, I hope things return to normal soon so I can start working with the dedicated athletes in the girls’ basketball program.” – Coach John Barbier

“I am excited for John to lead our girls’ basketball program, and equally excited for him to be a part of our activities department as a whole. Coach Barbier has a great vision for unifying our girls’ basketball program from the youth levels on up. Additionally, his philosophy of small school athletics and the importance of coaches and sponsors working together to share student-athletes and promote an exceptional extra-curricular experience aligns with our existing vision for activities at Ogden. Coach Barbier will be a tremendous fit in Ogden.” – Ben Van Wyk, Activities Director
