BOONE, Iowa—The Boone City Council took formal action earlier this month, at their meeting on April 6th, to suspend open burning until further notice due to the novel coronavirus pandemic. The regular time for open burning was April 15th to May 15th.
To add to the confusion, the Boone City Newsletter is included with the most recent utility bill from the city and includes information that Open Burning is from April 15th to May 15th. It turns out that the information for the City Newsletter was put together in mid-March and was printed prior to the Council’s action at their April 6th meeting. So, open burning of yard waste is suspended and not permitted at this time. During a Tuned In Program on KWBG after the April 6th meeting, Boone Mayor John Slight said he expected the the Council would revisit the matter, possibly at a meeting in May.
