DMACC Board Approves Carroll Campus Renovation

KWBG 05/14/20

·         Three-point-two million dollar Renovation of the DMACC Carroll Campus to Begin this Summer.

·         New Exhibition Space will Benefit Students As Well As the Carroll Community.

·         The 10,700 Square Foot Renovation will include a Welding Lab, Electrical lab and New Centralized Office Space for Student Services.

ANKENY, Iowa—The DMACC Board of Directors has approved an Addition/Renovation Project on the DMACC Carroll Campus.  Construction on the 10,700 square foot renovation to the existing building is expected to begin later this summer.

The $3.2 million renovation will bring the DMACC Carroll Campus Technology Resource Center, which has been at another location since 2001, to campus.  The addition will also include a welding lab, electrical lab and new centralized office space for Student Services.

“This means we will have better wrap-around services for Welding and
Industrial-Maintenance students,” Carroll Campus Provost Dr. Joel Lundstrom said.

He said enrollment at the Carroll Campus continues to grow making the addition’s focus on better student support critical going forward.

Dr. Lundstrom said the addition and renovation will take place on the northeast corner of the existing campus.

One of the most exciting components of the new project, according to Dr. Lundstrom, is the new Exhibition Space.

“Our campus has four or five community events each month and this exhibition space will serve as a central location for bringing campus activities to the public,” Dr. Lundstrom said. “In addition, the space works as a student center where students will be able to study on campus, meet with friends and relax between courses.”

Dr. Lundstrom said the project is to be completed by May of 2021.

Former DMACC Carroll Campus Provost and current DMACC Board of Trustees member Jim Knott said the Carroll Campus renovation will have a huge impact on the DMACC Carroll Campus, as well as the Carroll community.

“This renovation will modernize a welding lab and an electrical lab and create a welcoming area for students to study,” Knott said.  “The exhibition area will be a great space for the community to hold functions, meet-and-greets and for the general public to listen to invited speakers.  The city of Carroll has needed something like this for a long time.”

DLR Group is the architectural firm hired to prepare the plans and specifications for the project.
