BOONE, Iowa—The planning committee for the Iowa Municipal Band Festival announces that the 2020 Festival, which was scheduled for Saturday, July 11, 2020 at Herman Park Pavilion in Boone, Iowa, has been canceled.
According to Festival coordinator Dale Schoening, “A number of community bands in Iowa have already canceled their summer seasons on account of COVID-19. Most of the other bands have delayed the beginning of their seasons for the same reason, and indicate that cancellation is still a possibility. Under these circumstances, we have found bands to be hesitant to commit to participation in the Festival this year, which we understand completely. We also considered the safety of participants and attendees, many of whom are considered to be at higher risk because of their age. After considering our options, we have decided that it is best to cancel the Festival for this year.” The 2021 Festival is scheduled for Saturday, July 10, 2021.
The Iowa Municipal Band Festival is a free, non-competitive annual event featuring concerts by community bands from various locations in Iowa, and occasionally from beyond. It has been an annual event since 1992, held on the second Saturday in July, rain or shine, from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. in the historic and acoustically excellent Herman Park Pavilion in Boone, Iowa. Food is available on the grounds.
