Summer Starts with Advisories for 6 Beaches

DES MOINES, Iowa—Kayaking, canoeing and tubing season are in full swing with summer officially arriving on Saturday afternoon.  With that comes the weekly release of information from the Iowa DNR about issues with some of the state’s beaches.

There are 6 beach advisories* for the week of 6/1919

6 Beaches with an E. Coli-related Advisory:

Backbone Beach (Dundee, Delaware County, IA)
Beed’s Lake Beach (Hampton, Franklin County, IA)
Denison Beach (Black Hawk Lake, Lake View, Sac County, IA)
Lake MacBride Beach (Solon, Johnson County, IA)
McIntosh Woods Beach (Clear Lake, Ventura, Cerro Gordo County, IA)
Viking Lake Beach (Stanton, Montgomery County, IA)

For those curious about the Don Williams Recreational Area in Boone County.  Data from the DNR monitoring program shows E. Coli levels well below the advisory threshold.
