On Sunday, the Iowa Department of Public Health identified 495 new cases of coronavirus in our state, an increase from the 380 COVID-19 cases reported on Saturday. Iowa has now had nearly 28,500 cases of coronavirus, which have resulted in 704 deaths: 3 in Saturday’s update, but none on Sunday. Since 5:00 on Friday afternoon in central Iowa, 162 new cases of COVID-19 have been identified in Polk County for a total of 5,930, 50 in Story for 667, 48 in Dallas for 1,170, 3 in Hamilton for 182, 3 in Webster for 145, Greene holds steady at 28, and 3 in Boone County for 133 overall. Statewide, there are 118 patients currently hospitalized for COVID-19, but over 17,500 Iowans have recovered, including 83 in Boone County. For the 1 in 11 Iowans who have been tested for coronavirus, the infection rate has dropped below double digits, to 9.6%.
