On Sunday, the Iowa Department of Public Health identified 389 new cases of COVID-19, a significant decrease from the 667 positive coronavirus tests reported on Saturday. However, our state has now surpassed 42,000 cases of COVID-19 and 826 Iowans have died of coronavirus: 6 on Saturday, but none in Sunday’s update. Since 5:00 on Friday afternoon in central Iowa, 145 new cases of COVID-19 have been identified in Polk County this weekend for a total of 9,037, 36 in Webster for 605 there, 28 in Story for 1,039, 24 in Dallas for 1,660, 1 in Hamilton for 217, 0 in Greene which holds steady at 37, and half a dozen in Boone County for 212 overall. Statewide, there are 226 patients currently hospitalized for coronavirus, an increase of 6 from Saturday, but over 29,500 Iowans have recovered, including 134 in Boone County. For the 1 in 7 Iowans who have now been tested for COVID-19, the infection rate continues – for the third weekend in a row – at 9.3%.
