BOONE, Iowa—The Boone Fire Department finally returned to the station Wednesday morning after spending the overnight at the scene of a house fire in the 1400 block of Boone Street. Fire Chief Justin Adams says the initial call was received about 11:30 p.m. Tuesday and came in as a report of a compost fire that had spread to siding on the house. He said that when the first crew arrived on the scene, the fire had already spread to the attic and second floor of the home. Crews were able to extinguish the fire, but did return and remained on the scene for the rest of the night. Adams said the older home had been remodeled and there were several additions that created spaces for the fire. He said the actual fire damage was on the second floor with extensive smoke and water damage through the rest of the home.
Adams says the family was able to escape and has been staying with relatives. He said the department was assisted by the Ogden Fire Department, Boone Police Department, Boone County Hospital Ambulance, Boone County Search and Rescue, Boone County Sheriff’s Department, Alliant Energy and others.
