COVID-19 cases rise, hospitalizations fall

On Sunday, the Iowa Department of Public Health identified 814 new cases of COVID-19, a slight increase from the 793 positive coronavirus tests reported twenty-four hours earlier.  Iowa has had over 74,000 cases of COVID-19 and 1,218 Iowans have died from coronavirus:  eight on Saturday, with one each in Polk, Story, Webster, and Hamilton counties and two more in Sunday’s update.  Since 4:00 on Friday afternoon in central Iowa, 228 new cases of COVID-19 have been reported in Polk County for a total of 14,652; 46 this weekend in Story for 3,116; 43 in Dallas for 2,592; 22 in Webster for 1,143 there; two in Hamilton for 306; a couple in Greene for 71; and 8 in Boone County for 408 overall.  Statewide, there are 274 patients currently hospitalized for coronavirus, down 16 from Saturday and greater than 53,000 Iowans have recovered, including 289 in Boone County.  For the one in five Iowans who have now been tested for COVID-19, the infection rate has increased a tenth of a percent to 10.6.
