On Sunday, the Iowa Department of Public Health identified 1,264 new cases of COVID-19, the fifth day out of the last nine that our state has reported over a thousand positive coronavirus tests. This weekend, Iowa may surpass 100,000 COVID-19 cases since the pandemic began and there have been 1,460 coronavirus deaths: 14 on Saturday, including one from Polk County, and six in Sunday’s update. Since 5:00 on Friday afternoon in central Iowa, 255 new cases of COVID-19 have been reported in Polk County for a total of 17,148; 56 this weekend in Dallas for 3,101; 44 in Story for 3,709; nine in Hamilton for 383 there; seven in Webster for 1,549; four in Greene for 151; and 14 in Boone County for 611 overall. Statewide, there are 438 patients currently hospitalized for coronavirus, down from a pandemic-high of 461 on Friday, but greater than 76,000 Iowans have recovered, 419 in Boone County alone. For the one in four Iowans who have been tested for COVID-19, the infection rate is up again, to 11.6%.
