BOONE, Iowa—The Boone School Board held a special meeting Thursday morning, originally scheduled to approve a contract with the DLR Group for designing a new elementary facility to replace the existing Page and Lincoln school buildings. That action happened quickly, but most of the time was spent discussing the district’s Return to Learn Plan, and specifically the formula used to determine when to go from on-site learning to either hybrid or on-line learning.
With concern over the Thanksgiving Holiday and the potential for additional community spread of the coronavirus among families, students and staff, Board member Pat Thieben suggested the district use next Monday and Tuesday to prepare for on-line learning and then go to that delivery method for two-weeks after Thanksgiving. After further discussion with input from all board members and the district’s administrative team, it was decided that the Boone School District will stick with their metrics to determine when to make changes in educational delivery. If a change needs to be made, Superintendent Julie Trepa will make the decision, so the board will not need to convene.
