Daily COVID-19 numbers creep lower

On Sunday, the Iowa Department of Public Health identified 1,869 new cases of COVID-19, 500 fewer positive coronavirus tests than were reported twenty-four hours before.  Nearly 244,000 Iowans have now contracted COVID-19 and 2,682 have died of coronavirus:  62 on Saturday, including six in Polk County, along with one each in Story, Webster, and Hamilton counties, as well as 17 in Sunday’s update.  Since 4:00 on Friday afternoon in central Iowa, 619 new cases of COVID-19 have been identified in Polk County; 118 in Dallas; 89 in Story; 19 in Webster; 9 in Hamilton; 7 in Greene; and three dozen in Boone County this weekend for a pandemic total of 1,508.  Statewide, 918 Iowans are hospitalized for coronavirus, down 42 from Saturday and almost 159,000 have recovered, including 959 in Boone County, where the fourteen-day positivity rate stands at 13%.
