Good news doesn’t last

After listing no coronavirus deaths in Iowa on Friday and Saturday, the Department of Public Health on Sunday reported 138 COVID-19 deaths in the last twenty-four hours.  Eleven of those occurred in Polk County, three in Webster, two each in Story and Dallas Counties, and one apiece in Greene and Boone Counties.  All told, 3,589 Iowans have succumbed to coronavirus and over 267,000 have contracted COVID-19.  Since 4:30 on Friday afternoon in central Iowa, 390 new cases of coronavirus have been identified in Polk County; 67 in Dallas; 59 in Story; 17 in Hamilton; 15 in Webster; four in Greene; and 21 this weekend in Boone County for a pandemic total of 1,743.  Statewide, 639 Iowans are hospitalized for COVID-19, down 40 from Saturday and more than 213,500 have recovered, including 1,302 in Boone County where the fourteen-day positivity rate has dropped two percentage points in the last week to 12%.
