Isobel Myers

KWBG 01/10/21

BOONE, Iowa—Funeral arrangements are set for 93 year old Isobel F. Myers of Boone, Iowa. She passed away on Friday, January 8, 2021, at the Mary Greeley Israel Family Hospice House in Ames, IA.

The youngest child of James and Mary Ann Attey, Isobel was born December 10, 1927, in Newcastle upon Tyne, England. She came to the United States as a baby and grew up with her family on an acreage in rural West Boone.

Isobel graduated from Boone High school in 1946 and worked as a secretary until being united in marriage to Roland F. Myers on September 3, 1950. The couple had three children and Isobel was active in all their activities including PTA, advisor for Eastern Star Rainbow girls, dance, sports, music, and was the “neighborhood Mom” for decades to dozens of kids and friends of her children. She had the gift of hospitality and enjoyed events and travels with her family and friends. She organized the family’s annual summer vacation at Lake Okoboji, and in her very, very active later years especially enjoyed trips to New York City, South Africa, and Washington D.C. Isobel was thrilled to meet President Obama and tour Air Force One when it was in Des Moines. This was arranged by her grandson, Captain Timothy Myers, who was the Naval Military Aide to the President at the time.

An active and longtime member of the First Baptist Church, Isobel lived for more than 60 years in her family home on West Third Street, and then moved three blocks and enjoyed and loved her Eastern Star duplex for the past seven years.

Isobel is preceded in death by her husband Roland, who died January 15, 2012, and brothers Dan, who died in 1991, and Jim, who was killed in the Philippines in 1942 serving in the United States Marine Corps.

Isobel is survived by her children: Tom (Denise) Myers of Rockford, IL; Mary Ann (Jim) Anderson of Kansas City, MO; and Kathy (Tony) Houseman of Ames, IA; grandchildren: Timothy (Shannon) Myers; Jeffrey (Elise) Myers; Allie and Eli Houseman, and great-grandchildren: Brayden, Elizabeth, Marie, Claire, and James Myers.

A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, January 12, 2021, at 2:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Boone. Visitation with the family present will be from 1:00 p.m. until the time of the memorial service. Interment will be at Linwood Park Cemetery in Boone. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, masks and social distancing will be required in the Church.

The memorial service will be live-streamed on the Schroeder-Stark-Welin Facebook Page, and can be accessed at: https://www.facebook.com/SchroederStarkWelin

The live stream of the service will start at 1:55 p.m. on Tuesday, January 12, 2021.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the First Baptist Church in Boone, Mary Greeley Israel Family Hospice House in Ames, or to the Eastern Star Masonic Home in Boone, and can be sent to C/O Schroeder-Stark-Welin Funeral Home, P.O. Box 116, Boone, IA 50036.
