BOONE, Iowa—Funeral arrangements are set for 89 year old Erling D. Larson of Boone, Iowa. He passed away at the Eastern Star Masonic Home in Boone on Thursday, January 7, 2021. Erling was born on March 14, 1931 in Stratford, Iowa. He was the son of John and Lucille (Anderson) Larson. On February 14, 1954, Erling married Carolyn M. Curvin at the Stratford Lutheran Church. He attended a country school, and then graduated from Stratford High School in 1948. In 1951 he enlisted in the Marine Corps and served in Korea where he was wounded near Inje, North Korea. After returning from military service Erling farmed for a short and in 1956 was employed by the Iowa Highway Commission (DOT). He retired in 1994 after 39 years of employment.
Erling was a member of Augustana Lutheran Church, was elected and served 7 years at the Boone Park Commission. He also served 6 years as a member of the original Boone Park Foundation. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion, Military Order of the Purple Heart, Disabled American Veterans, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Marine Corps League, and was a past Marine Corps League Commandant, of the Deaver Detachment in Boone, Department of Iowa and the Midwest Division (7 State Area).
He was preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn (Skip) Larson; parents, John and Lucille Larson; and a niece Kristen Myers.
He is survived by his children: Jeff (Pam) Larson of Roscoe, IL; Lisa (Denny) Doud of Polk City, IA; Jay (Alison) Larson, and Lori (Tim) Hopkins both of Boone, IA; 9 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; sister, Janet (Ernest) Myers of Johnston, IA; sister-in-law, Dianna (Curvin) Sutton of Boone, IA, as well as numerous cousins, nephews, nieces, and their families.
A private graveside service will take place at a later date.
