DES MOINES, Iowa—On January 27, Representative Phil Thompson (R-Jefferson) successfully ran House File 229 to get children back in the classroom and give parents a greater voice in their child’s education, passing it with a bipartisan vote on the House Floor.
HF 229 requires school districts to offer a 100% in-person learning option for parents who want it. Schools can still offer fully-virtual or hybrid models and parents can choose which option is best for their child.
“For too long, parents have been left out of the conversation in regards to their child’s education,” said Thompson. “This legislation will give the power back to the parents to decide what learning option is the best for their child. Kids will no longer be trapped in a situation that is not what’s best for them.”
