COVID-19 numbers improving

On Sunday, the Iowa Department of Public Health reported 533 new cases of COVID-19, a slight decrease of 22 in the last twenty-four hours, pushing the pandemic total to more than 324,000.  Forty-one deaths were attributed to coronavirus on Saturday, including three in Polk County, two in Hamilton, and one each in Story and Webster Counties, but none on Sunday.  However, 5,108 Iowans have succumbed to COVID-19.  Since 5:00 on Friday afternoon in central Iowa, 206 new cases of coronavirus have been identified in Polk County; 31 in Dallas; two dozen in Story; eight in Webster; five in Hamilton; three in Greene; and nine this weekend in Boone County for 2,322 cases overall.  Now 316 Iowans are hospitalized with coronavirus, down 20 from Saturday and well over 293,000 have recovered, 2,075 in Boone County alone, where the fourteen-day positivity rate decreased a percentage point (for the second week in a row) to 7%.
