BOONE, Iowa—Funeral arrangements have been set for 92 year old Pence L. Howard of Boone, Iowa. He passed away on Friday, February 5, 2021, at his home surrounded by his family.
A graveside inurnment service will be held at a later date at Boone Memorial Gardens in Boone.
Pence was born December 4, 1928, on a farm in Ceylon, Minnesota, the son of Frank and Ruby (Hall) Howard. He attended the Emmet County Consolidated School of Estherville, Iowa. He joined the United States Navy in 1947, and was stationed in Guam. He was honorably discharged on September 9, 1949.
Pence was united in marriage to Marvea Burgess, on December 3, 1949, and they had three children: Dawn (Chris) Barnes of Cedar City, Utah, Genon (Robert) Peterson of Forest City, Iowa, and Darwin (Regina) Howard of Lemoore, California. They later divorced.
He was united in marriage to Yvonne Ione Clinton on January 4, 1958. They had four children: Pamela Crooks and her friend Bobby Patton of Boone, Iowa, Mark Howard of Boone, Iowa, Alan (Julie) Howard of Ogden, Iowa, and Penny (Thomas) Hanson of Worthington, Minnesota.
During his lifetime, Pence worked road construction around the United States, owned his own building construction business, joined the Madrid Police Department and then the Boone County Sheriff’s Department. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, fishing, hunting, camping, bowling, and NASCAR.
Pence was preceded in death by his beloved wife, his parents, two brothers, and four sisters.
He is survived by his children; grandchildren; great grandchildren; and great-great-grandchildren; his sister, Jennie Menssen of Estherville, Iowa; his sister-in-law, Noreen Briggs of Rolfe, Iowa; and his brother-in-law, Ronald Clinton of South Carolina; and numerous nieces and nephews.
